Peter Peter entered the St Mary’s Transition Program in 2005 and on successful completion was case loaded to NOVA Employment - Penrith in 2007. Peter wanted to work in a friendly environment with plants or with animals. The dedicated staff at the Penrith branch set to work and approached Posh Indoor Plant Hire. After discussions with the Owner and the Manager a position was offered and Peter had the chance to visit the site and decide whether this was the job he would like to do. Peter was thrilled at the chance to work with plants and accepted immediately. Peter now spends his day organizing the Hot Houses, weeding and pruning, washing and sorting pots, using the a blower and broom to keep the areas clean, and having a great time with the 16 staff who work there. But its not all work, Peter has also attended staff parties and gatherings. The best thing about Peter’s job is that he is paid award wages and works in award conditions - the same as every other worker at Posh Plants. The great thing for Peter is that he got his wish. He now works indoors and outdoors with plants has made new friends and work colleagues and even shares his morning tea with a somewhat amusing cross Jack Russell puppy. Posh Plants has a reliable, motivated worker and the staff at Penrith have the pleasure of watching Peter develop his skill. NOVA staff fully support Peter while he is at work and whenever support is needed outside work hours. |
